]bracket
]bracket is an installation that can be activated by performance. The work departs from one of Anne Carson’s translations of Sappho in If Not, Winter (2002), where missing fragments of papyrus appear as square brackets on the page. Instead of smoothing over these absences, Carson lets the gaps remain visible. I pick up this typographic gesture and read the bracket as a body, like a foot lifting onto its toes, hovering between presence and disappearance.
In the installation and its live activation, the bracket becomes a sculptural and choreographic motif: a repeated, unstable shape that asks what it means to hold avoidance, censorship, and erasure in place, rather than pretending they’re not there.
